The morning sunlight streamed through the high windows of the warehouse, casting a layer of pale gold over the neatly stacked shelves - a red cargo van loaded with goods had just driven into the store's back yard, and several delivery workers dressed in blue uniforms were already stepping onto the unloading platform, starting today's task of moving the goods.

"Be careful with this roll of packaging material, place it gently and don't crush the plastic crates underneath!" Deliveryman Lao Li reminded his companion while steadying a white roll tightly wrapped in cling film, stepping firmly onto the truck bed with his foot on the wooden pallet. Inside the truck, two other workers were neatly stacking the cargo: blue plastic crates were arranged into tidy blocks, and the white rolls were leaned against the side of the truck, leaving a passageway. Warehouse clerk Xiao Zhang, holding the paperwork, squatted by the crates to check the quantities, the rustling of his pen on the forms blending with the light sounds of the stacked cargo.

"This batch consists of the pipe fittings and packaging materials ordered yesterday. There are fifty turnover boxes alone, and we need to carefully check the specifications of the rolled materials," Xiao Zhang said with a smile as he flipped through the documents, his fingertips gliding over the labels on the blue boxes - this is the store's third restock this month. With the year-end renovation season approaching, orders for hardware and construction materials have increased by 30% compared to last month. On the factory shelves, previously stored goods such as rebar and sealant are already organized by category: metal materials are on the right-side shelves, lightweight consumables are near the entrance, and although the shelves on the orange racks are slightly bowed, they remain stable.

The rhythm of unloading quickened in tacit understanding: the delivery worker hooked the rolls of material onto the small lifting equipment, and with a light press of a button, could hoist the heavy items up to the truck bed; Xiao Zhang, after counting each type of goods, would stick a 'Checked' note on them, then take a photo of the documents and send them to the front desk for record. Twenty minutes later, the last roll of material was loaded into the truck. The delivery worker wiped the sweat from his forehead, while Xiao Zhang signed his name at the end of the document: 'All set, this batch can be shelved this afternoon.'

When the truck engine roared back to life, the light and shadows inside the factory had shifted by half an inch. The new goods on the shelves meshed seamlessly with the old stock, forming continuous stacks. Xiao Zhang folded the documents and tucked them into his folder, then turned to walk toward the next area that needed organizing - the busyness of the warehouse was never an end in itself, but a daily cycle in the operation of the store. Every item that entered the warehouse was waiting to become a tool in a customer's hand, building materials on a construction site, taking root practically in the corners of the city.
