How to use and maintain a circular saw

The electric circular saw is a commonly used woodworking tool. Below are its usage methods and maintenance tips.

Choose the appropriate saw blade:

Select the proper saw blade based on the type and thickness of the material being cut. For example, blades with larger tooth spacing are typically used for cutting wood, while specialized metal cutting blades are needed for cutting metal.

Install the saw blade:

Ensure the power of the electric saw is turned off and unplugged. Install the saw blade onto the saw arbor, tightening the nut with a wrench, ensuring the direction of the blade is correct.

Adjust cutting depth:

Depending on the thickness of the material, adjust the cutting depth of the blade. Generally, the teeth of the blade should be about 2-3 mm below the surface of the material to ensure complete cutting and to avoid excessive wear on the blade.

Secure the material:

Use clamps or other securing devices to hold the material being cut on the workbench to prevent it from moving during the cut, ensuring accuracy and safety. Turn on the power: Plug the electric saw into the power outlet and turn on the power switch. Wait for the blade to reach full speed before slowly cutting into the material.

Maintenance methods

Regular cleaning:

After use, promptly clean the sawdust, dust, and debris from the electric circular saw. You can use a brush or compressed air to remove dust from parts such as the saw body, saw blade, and motor casing to prevent dust from entering the motor, affecting its performance and lifespan.

Check the saw blade:

Before and after each use, check the wear condition of the saw blade. If the teeth of the saw blade show wear, distortion, or damage, replace the blade promptly to ensure cutting efficiency and safety. Also, ensure that the blade is installed securely and not loose.

Lubrication and maintenance:

Regularly lubricate the moving parts of the electric circular saw, such as the saw arbor and guide rails. Applying an appropriate amount of lubricant oil or grease to these parts can reduce friction and ensure smooth operation. However, be careful not to drip lubricant oil on the saw blade or cutting material to avoid affecting cutting quality.

Check the motor:

Regularly inspect the motor's connection wires for looseness, and check for any overheating or unusual odors from the motor casing. If problems are found with the motor, stop using it immediately and have it repaired by a professional.
